Life can be so strange and amazing sometimes.  I was around 14 and would babysit a cute little boy named Bradley in the small town of Benton, Arkansas.  One of the memories I have from those days is the time Bradley pushed his golden retriever into their pool and I had to jump in to get it out.  And also the time a big tornado came through town and their house flooded as I hid in the bathroom with his baby sister, Melodye.  Who would have thought over 20 years later that I would be photographing his wedding in Nashville, TN to a beautiful girl?  Sometimes you just can't imagine where life will take you and the stories it will tell.  But I am so glad that this story is being told and that I get it be apart of it.

Brad + Brittany are such a sweet, fun couple!  I can't wait to photograph their wedding in a few months.  I have a feeling that it is going to be quite a fun night!  Here are a few of my favorite images from our time together...

Receiving | Nashville Engagement Photography

I love it when an idea I have had for a while comes to fruition.  Every time that I eat at Burger Up (which is more than I would like to admit), I glance longingly at the loading dock next door at the bookstore.  I have wanted to photograph someone below the "receive" for a while.  Kind of like I have wanted to photograph Taylor Swift on top of one of the "Swift" 18 wheelers for a while now too.  Well you know which one was more likely to happen.  So a few weekends ago, I made it happen.  Kara + Justin were such great sports and hopped right up on the dirty loading deck.  I love it when my clients are not afraid of my weird ideas.  I loved the outcome and the poem I found by one of my favorite poets, Mary Oliver...

The world is more than the beating of a single heart.  It's praising.  It's giving until the giving feels like receiving.

No Ocean too Big | Nashville Engagement Photographer

Meg is special to our family.  She lived next door for the last 2 years.  Our kids light up every time they see her (and her roommates) face.  But then something slowly happened to those three single, gorgeous girls.  One by one all three of them were swept off their feet and in ended (or really began) with a ring put on their finger.  I knew the moment I met Paul that this would be the final result.  He was a dashing young man who romantically lived in Scotland while pursuing his Masters degree.  And I could just see it in their eyes that an ocean could not keep them apart.  And, I was right- it didn't!  But what is even better is that they grew up together and even went to prom together!  They went on their separate ways after school.  So, time and an ocean could not separate these two.  And I am pretty sure you can feel that closeness through these photos.  They are so sweet with each other.  We are so excited for you two and can't wait to watch you grow in the years to come.

New Love | Nashville Engagement Photographer

I am loving, LOVING!, my time with the couples who chose me as their wedding photographer.  Sometimes I just can't believe that this is my job!  It is such a gift to watch two people so in love at the edge of starting such a beautiful journey.  James & I are 13 years into the journey and life sometimes hardens you to the beauty of new love.  Not only do I get the chance to remember what it was like then but I can also find gratefulness in the love we have found in time.  There is a quote by CS Lewis that I think about all the time:

"Being in love’ first moved them to promise fidelity: this quieter love enables them to keep the promise. it is on this love that the engine of marriage is run: being in love was the explosion that started it.” CS Lewis

I love the loud, explosive love that I see through my lens with these couples.  But I pray that in 10, 20, 50 years that their love would become a love that will move quietly along the journey.

Here's to a gorgeous couple - Mallory+Ross!  I can't wait to be apart of their big day.
